AUTO INSURANCE

A competitive quote isn't our only objective. While cost is an important factor, ask any driver that's ever been in an accident and he'll tell you that great service and the right coverage are just as important.

Understanding Texas Auto Insurance: Part 1 - The Coverages That You Must Have

Bodily Injury to Others:

·         Pays for damages to anyone injured or killed by your car.

·        Pays for medical expenses, pain and suffering, your legal bills, and claims against you and your family and others driving with your permission.

·         Only applies to accidents in Texas.

·         Compensation limited to $25,000 per person and $50,000 per accident.

But what if...
You drive outside of Texas or in places where the public has no right of access, or you drive with guests in your car and wish to protect yourself in these situations? You should investigate Optional Bodily Injury to Others in the optional coverage section.

Consider this...
You could be sued for much more than the $25,000/$50,000 limit for bodily injury to others. Consider buying higher limits as outlined in the optional coverage section. Upping your limit is discussed in "Optional Bodily Injury to Others".

Personal Injury Protection:

·      This coverage pays you or anyone you let drive your car, anyone living in your household, passengers and pedestrians regardless of who causes the accident.

·        Pays for medical expenses, replacement services, and 75% of lost wages.

·        Pays for owners of cars and motorcycles and their families if they are injured while occupying or struck by a car that does not have Texas Compulsory Insurance.

·       The drivers and passengers of motorcycles are not covered in this case but they must purchase it to protect others who may be injured by the motorcycle.

But what if...
I have a medical and disability income plan already? You can save money by excluding yourself and other household members in this case.

Consider this...
Health insurance may not cover all of your medical expenses such as dental and cosmetic services, co-payments and deductibles. Long waiting lists for disability policies should also be considered.

Bodily Injury Caused by an Uninsured Auto:

·        Protects you, anyone you let drive the car, household members and passengers (unless covered by another Texas Policy with similar coverage) against losses by an uninsured or "hit and run" driver.

·        Damage to property or your car is not covered by this coverage.

Damage to Someone Else's Property:

·      Pays for damage to another person's property and any costs associated with the loss of use of that property when you, anyone you allow to use the car, or a household member causes an accident.

·        Minimum limit of $5,000 is required.

Consider this...
For a minimal cost it is a good idea to purchase more than the minimum limit. In fact, only 3% of all drivers purchase the minimum. With the costs of repairs to property and cars, limits of $50,000 and $100,000 are more the norm.
